Detailed description of Timberlane Country Club

Timberlane Country Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located just minutes from downtown New Orleans in Gretna, Louisiana.

Timberlane Country Club first opened for play in 1959. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

In the late 1950s, Mr. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. laid out over 7100 yards of golf. In 1959 the course was complete and play began at Timberlane. Over the past several years the course has matured, the oaks planted as small seedlings along the fairways now clearly define the layout and offer spectacular holes. With four sets of tee areas, the course can accomodate all skill levels. To add a bit of challenge, the course has 17 water hazards and 80 sand bunkers in play. Those not familiar with the course will find it friendly and challenging at the same time.

Gold tees: par-72, 7,130 yards , rating 73.1, slope 131

Blue tees: par-72, 6,558 yards, rating 71.3, slope 128

White tees: par-72, 6,163 yards, rating 69.4, slope 124

Red tees: par-72, 5,749 yards, rating 73.1, slope 125

Nice course; don't recall our price, but it was reasonable. This course was private before Hurricane Katrina. Membership was down and they now offer not only VERY affordable memberships without minimums, but also open tee times to the public, and those rates are good too. The course is really wedged into a subdivision. The routing is as creative as it can be given the area to work with. The course drains pretty well too. The front nine is all in one area that's about 200 yards across, but it's not all just parallel fairways. The back nine winds through another section of the neighborhood. For a Robert Trent Jones course, it's kind of non-descript, but the quality is in the details - some tricky greens, well placed bunkers and odd angles. A nice course for the money.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area
